THE STORY: This medal commemorates the Virginia Corridor Walking and Bike Trail. It's most recent addition now includes the
pedestrian bridge crossing over Briggsmore Avenue. It follows the old Tidewater Southern Railway line from Needham Avenue along Virginia
Avenue and will ultimately reach Bangs Avenue. The newest section brings the trail north to Bowen Avenue. The trail provides
a safe north-south passage for non-motorized traffic across the city of Modesto.
The coin depicts two railroad workers using a handcar to, appropriately, cross a bridge. Frank's design combines the present
development, enhancing our city's environment, with past importance of the railroads to Modesto.
