THE STORY: This
medal commemorates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Grayson, California. One of the oldest settlements in Stanislaus County,
Grayson was known as "the gateway to the gold mines" during the 1850's. This was due to its proximity to the local river. The medal depicts the old Grayson Hotel at which most travelers stayed prior to heading up river to the Mother
Lode area or on their way back from it. Grayson lost much of its importance after the railroads came in and eliminated much
of the river traffic.
