THE STORY: This medal commemorates the 150th anniversary of the California Gold Rush. In 1849
thousands of people headed west to California to find their fortune in California's gold fields. Stanislaus County saw its
share of gold miners and those passing through to the Mother Lode. This medal depicts a gold miner panning for gold on the
Stanislaus River. In honor of this important event, this was the only time one of the SCCC medals was struck in gold. The
medals were struck over a 1915 Austrian 100 Corona gold coin and limited to only 5 pieces.
