THE STORY: SCCC's first medal commemorates the first residents
of Stanislaus County, the Yokuts Indians. The face pictured is a representation of Chief Estanislao, of which
no pictures or paintings are known. At the top of the medal is the phrase "STANISLAUS COUNTY COIN CLUB". This medal
is unique because this is the only medal that actually spells out the name of the club. In
addition, this is the only medal in which no artwork was presented. During the
first medal contest, none of the submissions had artwork pertaining to the history of Stanislaus County. After looking
at the entries, Cliff Vilmur suggested that the first medal should honor the county's first residents and should portray
the likeness of a Yokuts Indian. His suggestion was accepted by the membership and he was given credit for designing
the first medal. Afterwards, the membership voted that all future medals should be of historical significance to Stanislaus
County.
