THE STORY: This
medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of California's first and largest irrigation district, the Turlock
Irrigation District (TID). Founded in 1887, TID brought water to the parched area through a series of dams and canals. Today,
the T10 not only brings water to the valley. but electrical power also, Pictured on the medal is the old Don Pedro Dam. At
the time it was built, it was the highest earthen dam in the world. Today, the old dam is submerged beneath the surface of
the lake as TID and its partner. the Modesto Irrigation District, built a newer, higher dam allowing them to store even more
water. This is one of only a few medals ever struck with a dam as its main feature. Several of the medals were presented to
the TID Board of Directors as a memento.
